HELP: Hard install cell phone

Ok all - heres the next project. New ambulance delviered Friday. We want to install a Cellular phone in this one, as we have in our old one. We are keeping the old one so transferring it is not an option. In ourold one, we have a Motorola analog permenant mount cell phone with a limousine kit, so we have one handset in front and one in back. I would love to duplicate this in our new vehicle, but Verizon no longer can get us anything like this. I will gladly use either an analog or a CDMA phone of any manufactur. I do not want to use any phone that is removable for obvious reasons. any suggestions??? Anyone have an old hardwire cell phone they are looking to get rid of?? I THINK, Motorola still makes one, I am not sure, I have a friend who installs them at work and they just did one here, I think it was acutally a booster for a handheld phone though...I iwll ask

To my knowledge, there are no new units available like your asking about. The old style analog units can still be located, but most of the system operators don't want any new analog phones installed.

The installed analog phones are trying to be phased out by most system operators. They have converted most systems to digital. It cost too much to maintain the analog system. It won't provide all the frills people want. Now the FCC has ruled that analog can be phased out as of a certain date.

There are however some systems that still are analog only. Most of these are located in the low traffic areas of the country and still serve the customers and system owners just fine. I have found some in the Northern Colorado area and in parts of Wyoming. I am sure there are more around.

Have fun locating another unit for your ambulance. It would be easier to remove the old one and reinstall it in the new ambulance.

My suggestion for this problem would be use a Motorola phone car kit with a locking cradle and to have one with the option hands-free and privacy handset.

I know that they made one for the Motorola Startac and I had one. You have to order it special from Motorola and it coasts around $299.99. BUt it allows you to lock the phone into the cradle with a key lock, and you could put the handsfree in the ambulance cab and put the privacy handset in the back for the medics that need to use it but do not need to hear what the other person on the phone is saying.

The only problem you would still have is where to put the phone for dialing?????

About a year ago went threw same problem with Verizon. Wanted to purchase new unit for ambulance. Verizon said they don't sell mobile units anymore and don't support them. I had source for new unit but Verizon would not program for there system. About a month later we had cord on handset go bad and were told by them parts are not available. Contacted local Motorola source and guess what they are. The only company still supporting mobile unit setups is Nextel from my research into this. Also was mentioned above about phasing out analog systems I think that date is 2007 operators don't have to maintain there analog systems that are in place.

I just took a ride to my local Verizon store, and all they had was a handset adapter, just put the handset in the cradle and it makes it into a hands free speakerphone with charger. Was running about $200.00 for the Motorola V-series phones.

Hello.

I bought a motorola extended system, this is the thing that takes the ESN from the handset and puts it in a mobile.
Startac 7797, dual band, dual mode, TDMA.
Type EE2, fa 97 series dual band, 3 watt/ 1.2 watt,with full feature handset and locking cradle.
Under $300.00 complete with DHFA speaker and mic.
The only catch, you can only get this kind of unit in Canada, the US will not allow ESN transfer units in this country, even if fraud is clearly not the issue.
Now, this unit will work as a dual band mobile without its startac, and a limo kit is available, as well as something called a "connection", this gives you dial tone and ring, like a land line.
I have this on cingular wireless, works great.
