Astro spectra, uses USB to program???

Post by Zap »

I am told that Astro spectras program rib-less.
Does anyone know about this?
What model or series this is likely to be found in?
Where can I find the info to make a cable?
What RSS version would this be (too bad I can't ask where to get...)

You can ask, but you will be told it's Motorola. 8)

I've never owned one so I'm probably talking out my arse here but from what I've read they use the regular RIB system for programming. There should be some info on the main batlabs site about it.

I belive the super new generation of radios are going to USB but I will never have that kind of $ to find out first hand.

The only USB radios I know of right now are the XTS5000/2500. You can also get a ribless serial cable for them. The Astro Spectra replacement will likely be USB as well.

USB Programming cables

I have seen the USB cable for the XTS5K however you can't Flash with it.
To flash you Must use the serial cable, it is also ribless. It uses a Maxim 232 series chip in it.
