Astro encryption modules for various radios

Post by Barry Dehatchit »

Looking for some info on encryption for a couple of astro radios. I'm guessing the best encyrption to have (besides AES) would be DES-XL for analog and DES-OFB for astro. What modules (part numbers) should I be looking for if I have an: astro spectra, astro saber and an xts3500.

I've also got a couple of spectra (encryption capable) and a carrier board. What module would be compatible with the above in des-xl mode?

I understand there are the new ucm modules but since none of my radios have the latest and greatest firmware, I probably can't use them. I'm also guessing the older modules will be cheaper as well.

TIA, Barry.

Sorry to hear about your drive. Head crash or other fatality??

Picked up some des-ofb modules for the saber and spectra. Put one in the saber and it comes up with KG1: None KG2: DES-OFB which I expected.

I programmed up some channels and was suprised to see that I could had securenet encryption on analog. I thought DES-OFB was only available on apco25 channels? Which flavor of encryption am I getting on analog? Can't be des/dvp/dvi since the board isn't capable of it.

As well, even though the radio supports multiple keys, I can only select which key I'm using on the analog modes. The digital modes seem to be slaved to one key even though I've got select enabled in the astro talkgroup list under encryption and more then one key enabled. I'm sure this is just an rss setting I've overlooked somewhere.
