GTX Mobile

Post by n3obl »

I have two gtx mobiles that currently need Power into Pin 10 on the acc connector. Is there a fuse jumper similar to the maxtrac for where i can disable that iginiton control.

The latest version of the GTX doesn't need power to pin 10, but it sounds like you have a little bit older models. No simple fuse or jumper on those. Sorry.

Actually, there's a very simple jumper you can put in the radio to bypass the ignition sense. Unfortunately, I don't have picture scanning capability to show you. If you have the radio opened in front of you, with the front facing you, the 16-pin accessory connector will be in the top LEFT (edited, I originally said RIGHT) corner. Down about an inch from where the accessory pins solder into the board, there will be a couple of open solder pads (missing chip component). One of these pads will measure a short to pin 10. Simply solder in a jumper in place of the the missing component. Maybe someone else can post a picture.

GTX ignition sense

Post by n5ztl »

I found that connecting pin 10 (ignition sense) to pin 12 (general i/o) that there was enough voltage to stay powered up on my units. To get the internal speaker to work required a jumper from pin 16 to pin 13. Probably want to make sure pin 13 isn't connected to ground or some silly thing that will blow the audio stages. The external speaker would be connected between pin 1 and 16. Pin 9 to ground will power up the unit even if the manual switch is off (emergency power up).
Hope this helps. I accept no responsibility if someone blows up their radio from using this info. Just passing on what worked for me.

I am playing with one of these silly things my self, and found that if you connect pin 7 to pin 9, it powers up great!, but nothing on the front panel works!

If you do not have anything on the accessory connector, it will not power up, when you turn it on, it powers up for just a second then shuts back off, does this mean I need the power to pin 10?

Also, does the pin numbering correspond to the numbering on the maxtrac? I have a accessory connector from a maxtrac, can I just use the house and change the jumpers?

Thanks

Yes, it does.

The actual pin numbering is the same, although some pins have different functions in the GTX as compared to the Maxtrac. Pin 16 must be shorted to pin 13 for internal speaker, not pin 15 as in the Maxtrac. That's the only jumper you normally need. The jumper to bypass ignition sense is inside the unit, as per my post above (which I edited, by the way, confused my left from right).
