Hi guys,
I figured I would ask the experts out here for a solution to my problem, I currently have a 1992 Ford Crown Victoria.
I am looking for am overhead console to mount all my radios, siren and light controls, they are all remote mounts so should be easy enough.
I just cant seem to find any overhead consoles out there, other than cheap ones made for trucks and vans. I know they have them I have seen many police units in the field, just never got a name on them.
Thanks
Bob

You may be referring to something like this...EQSupply wrote:Hi guys,

With that said, I want to state here that I don't like the idea of overhead mounts unless they are explicitly designed not to present a danger to the driver or front passenger in the event of a collision. I've seen what you describe installed in ambulances, but they were usually built from scratch specifically for the vehicle involved.
You should also know that there are plenty of console mounts designed expressly to fit popular cop-car models, like the Crown Vic. If you're not dead set on overhead stuff, SMC (the same company I got my mounts from -- see the thread on the 2000 Dodge Grand Caravan under the 'Vehicle Installations" forum) has a nice web page filled with all kinds of goodies.

Do you have your heart set on mounting the radios overhead? Can I try and talk you out of it? You have seen police cars with the radios mounted overhead? I never have. Its a wiring and mounting nightmare. Plus it is very un-natural looking up at the radios and driving. It is much easier to slightly look down and keep your eyes on the road and in your periphery see the radios.
Having said all that. Try looking at over head consoles that come in vans. Like conversion vans or factory mini vans. A popular mod for Caprice/Impala crowd was to install Astrovan overhead console.

It might be possible to mount something like this and modify it to mount your radio heads. I still don't think it is a good idea. But if you get it to work I'd like to see pics.http://www.tuffyproducts.com/consoles/overhead/048.html
