Quantar VHF Range 2 to Range 1

Post by KE9XB »

I recently picked up a couple of VHF Quantar 30 watt base station. I wanted to convert this to a repeater. So I read the radio and learned it is set for Range 2 (150-174). I need them to operate on Range 1 (136-154). How can I get it to accept a frequency range of 142-144 MHz? I programmed the frequencies in and the TX Lock LED flickers.

You are pretty much SOL here.

The range 2 Quantars seem to work down to about 146. Below that the VCO's go out of lock. As you discovered, programming is not the issue. The RSS will let you put in the freqs you want. The hardware just won't work there.

There's always ebay. Sell these, buy range one units.
