I'm completely blown away---the new LiIon Slimline battery on the XTS3000 reminds me of comparing the old HT-220 Slimline to the standard HT-220. The only small downside is that the old battery clip does not fit the new LiIon. A small price to pay...
To simulate the effect of this new ultra-slim battery, feel your XTS radio with no battery attached. The radio's thickness with the new slimline LiIon attached is only slightly marginally thicker than this! Also, it doesn't have the dumbass 3 ridges on the back (that cover the internal cells) that the old NTN8299 Boat anchor battery has---the battery’s back is entirely smooth and flat, and it feels way better in your hand. It stands up just fine on a table top as Motorola designed a nice sturdy base. Comparing the thickness of the rail thin XTS (with the new LiIon slimline battery attached) to the ASS-tro Saber is like comparing Celesta Flockhart to a REALLY EXTRA FAT Sumo Wrestler. And, don’t forget that anyone shorter than about 6 ft 8 inches tall can plan on the bottom of the ASS-tro Saber hitting the ground when it’s on their belt.
Remember all those arguments on the Batboard about XTS vs/ ASS-tro Saber?! A lot of folks commented how the acceptable fatness of the ASS-tro Saber somewhat offset the fact that the AS was over 25 stories high, not unlike the 1976 MX-360 radio. Guess what---the XTS3000 is WAY SLIMMER than the A-Saber, if you use the new LiIon battery, and it's WAY shorter! All around miniature compared to the A-Saber Boat anchor. The capacity of the LiIon is at least as good as the old NiMHd NTN8299.
Next month, Motorola is releasing 2 ALL NEW additional LiIon batteries for the XTS. One is a Smart Slimline LiIon (2000 maH), and the other is a standard sized Super Ultra Capacity LiIon, with 4000 maH capacity (same size as the old standard NTN8299). Both batteries will use smart IMPRESS chargers. Digital display of the battery’s capacity, charge time, health and status, serial number, and the list goes on...
Now, who was touting Kenwood P25 radios? Still IMPRESSed by the Parks Dept Racals? I don’t think so…

- What radios do you own?: iPhone, Blackberry, HT220
re:
sooner or later you are gonna realize that nobody gives a sh**. Why don't you stop flying helichoppers on nintendo pilotwings and get with a real crew. man you got some knowledge, And I honestly think you could do some good on this planet, but being a Moto promoter at this point is about as glamourous as being a promoter at a gay club. Now I'm not saying that noboby likes the ht220 slimline vs. the ht220 reg. , in fact for what it represents, the ht220 in my opinion is a much more influential radio, maybe in 20-30 years I will like the xts, but the reason why the xts is being pushed is not because digital is nessacery, its because motorola's radio service life is along long time and they need to sell some stuff and the fcc has made some huge allocation errors. I mean VHF in my area is dead and people are complaining about interference on 800 Mhz, They are rural, why are they on 800 in the first place. Let's not forget they need to drive their economic engine. 95% of departments are ok with what have and will be for some time. F... WHO EVER IS FOR FOR THE P25 STANDARD...the coverage will never be good due to geography. P25 is half ass....how are are you going to have 85 % of america (which is rural) on a band that underperforms in thier terrain.....imagine a town of 2000 pop. with all this fancy crap....it's reallly unnessacerary...don't get caught up in gimmicks. I bet you wear Air Jordans ASTROMODAT and have never even set foot on a baketball court let alone hit a jump shot. What we are on to is much more signfiant than P25......Band depends on terrain/surroundings...try to change that and you will spend too much $$ on something you cant perfect w/o spending $$ unnessaceralily. anbody who feels the same way about the fcc dumbness when it comes to P25 and the band issue holla back

Remember the porperties of LiIOH, they are not meant for all applications. Fire Dept's for one since if they get hot they can explode. A FBI agent at the WTC on Sep 12 had his hand blown off because he was suing a cell phone in a steam plumb. Another agent had his radio on the kitchen counter and the stove got it hot and it blew the radio and battery apart.
They are great for some applications but for hot NO WAY. The NiMH has it's uses as well as the good old NiCD.
You must be selective on what you buy for, remember the Motorola guy has to sell #'s, he really could care less as to what you buy or what you are using it for and probably does not even know the properties of cells.
I think Monty can back me up on this one, it comes form the newest Panasonic LiIOH development guides.
