It's not a 'bug'. Are you sure you're not pressing the Purple & Orange buttons at the same time? Actually, even 50-100ms between presses would likely result in the same thing. That is one of the correct ways to erase encryption keys. A quote from the XTS3000 Operator's Manual:
KEY Erasure (All KEYS Erased) — Method 2
1. With the radio on, press and hold the Top Side Button; while holding
this button down, press the Emergency Button.
DO NOT press the Emergency Button before pressing the Top
Side Button unless you are in an emergency situation; this would
send an emergency alarm.
2. When all the encryption keys are erased, the
display will show “ERASED.”
