can a quantar down on 410 come up the ham spectrum easily?

Some one mentioned to me an analog quantar he might have access to. It's removed from service but was operating around 410mhz.

Before I pursue price ont his thing-Will this go right into the ham band? If not, how expensive is it to convert.


I don't have any model number or flash info.

quantar model #'s dont tell you SQUAT, except really the power level.

VHF, UHF and 800Mhz 100(ish) watt stations are all T5365's

25w stations are all T5325's

the only way that i know of to find out what you have is to READ IT with RSS

this will tell you the hardware options installed, firmware revisions of the various boards, bandsplit, etc etc etc

oh, and NO it will not go directly into the ham band - it might program up, but i would bet that the preselector tops out at the high 430/low 440 range...

If the Quantar is legitimately on 410 MHz, then it would be either a 403 - 433 MHz 25 watt Quantar, or a 380 to 433 MHz 110 watt Quantar. Either way, it will not be realistic to uplift it to Range 2 UHF for Ham use. You will have HUGE problems with the Exciter, PA, Preselector and Receiver. The only useful stuff would be the power supply, SCM (assuming it's conmventional), Wireline board, and the backplane.

Only a worthwhile project if you could get it for free, or close to it.

I tried programming out-of-band freqs on a 403-433 MHz Quantar. The RSS would let me put anything in, but the PLL wouldn't lock above about 436 MHz.

I have a Quantar VHF Range 2 modules (150-174). They will program as low as 146Mhz I would be glad to trade a set for your UHF Range 1.

I do not actually have the quantar. The oportunity presented itself to me back when I originally posted. Before I made an offer, or bought it-I was seeing if it would go into the uhf ham band.
