MaCom - Tyco - (whatever) - EDACS systems do use IMBE in their current digital voice offering - I think they call it Pro-Voice. They use the full 25 KHz channel bandwidth with a 2 level modulation so it is not a CAI implementation - they just use the vocoder. That way their infrastructure uses the same channel modulation format -9600 Bps regardless of what is being transmitted - control channel data, mobile data, or digital voice.

The earlier AEGIS was something simpler & didn't sound as good as IMBE. It was more like the sound of motorola DES/DVP Securenet (12 KBps CVSD)

The second skit, they had some crazy guy in a wheel chair, who was shooting at people. They had to toast him unfortunately.. But anyway, the officers were using ASTRO radios, digital mode. I didn't catch what city it was, or what portables they were using. Did anyone happen to notice? I thought for a split second I saw an ASTRO Saber on someone's belt, but I don't think a whole lot of cities use them?

Yes, it was Alb, NM. and they were using Ericcson/Ma-COM/Pro-Voice/GE digital radios. Cannot think of the model number. Looks similar to an MTS2000.

I thought I had heard major complaints from the Jaguar. One county out here has asked that the LPE be kept in production do to the miserable performance of the Jaguar. Also over on the GE board it has been mentioned the M-RK will be back in production.

What radios do you own?: Too many to list

Hey all,

I missed the COPS show, but as I live just outside of Albuquerque, I can verify that they indeed use the jaguar radios in AGIES mode. No more scanning the APD or AFD  Just a side note, the audio was so bad on the system, that they put the dispatchers back on Analog, so we can actually scan the system with Trunktrackers, but only catch the dispatch side of things.

COPS in Albuquerque

Hi Guys
Yes that shooting was here. It was in the parking lot in front of the University of New Mexico. There were APD officers and UNM PD involved. We use Ericsson/MA-Com (what ever it is this week) LPE-200s radios. The cars have Orions (nice radio) Our system is an IMBE 800Mhz simulcast. Its actually a very good system. The UNM cops have a VHF system with HT750s. One of the problems at the shooting was we couldnt talk to each other (UNM-APD). We do have a 800 VHF patch on the state LEN channel. I didnt like the sound of the digital simulcast so I left the dispatchers on analog voice. They can switch it back on their consoles if they wish. Trunktrackers with the EDACS format will work on this system but you can only hear the dispatch portion.

As a side note we were looking a the Jaguar but decided they were too big and we would have two types of batteries two types of chargers two types of accsy, ect... so we decided to stick with the LPE-200. Ericsson indicated they were discontinuing the LPE because their supplier of controller chips wasnt going to make them anymore. After much pressure they got the supplier to make more of the chips and the LPEs continue. We have had pretty good luck with them. Break a few LCD displays now or then but other than that pretty good radio.

I hate to point this out, but for those of you in ALB NM that wish to monitor the AEGIS xmissions, check out the Ericsson EDACS link on the Trunked Radio Equipment for auction:

http://www.trunkedradio.net/trunked/equipment/ebay.htm

There are 2 or 3 EDACS AEGIS portables for auction there right now...

LPE, M-Rk and M-PA are all great radios. I'd put them up against Motorola stuff. Same with the Orion. Good stuff that's often over looked and under rated by many.

Just Try

Post by copcarguy »

One of the problems with GE and Co is getting parts. Just try to get a repl part in a reasonable time period. With Motorola, I order By 7:00pm today, and usually get my part tom. 98% in stock at shaumburg, and definately have it within 2 days. GE, your lucky if parts recieved in 30 days..Just my .02
