Astro Saber III Programming Question
Moderator: Queue Moderator
Hi-
Does anyone know how to reprogram an Astro Saber III with codeplug data that has been previously saved from the radio prior to sending it out to the depot for a tune-up without reprogramming the previous tuning/alignment value? Obviously I want to program the new values, however, I think that the old values will be programmed by default. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Elroy-
Thanks for the response. So just to make sure I am not confused, if I were to clone another codeplug into the radio with different tuning values, those values would replace the new values in the recently tuned radio, however, if I just reprogram the radio, the newly tuned values will remain in the radio? Will it make a difference if I will be using a newer RSS release than the one that contains my old codeplug in its current archives to comply with the "Codeplug Too New For This Application" dilemna. I assume that like other RSS, when I load the newer version, the archive will transfer over.
Would it be a good idea to go into the service menu first and write down the new values in case there is a problem so that I can replace them if necessary?
I assume that the depot can make alignment changes with their software that would not be effected by any changes to standard RSS alignment screens anyway, I suppose.
Thanks again-Sean

Since I'm new to all this myself I've run into a problem with trying to read an ASTRO Saber III. Anytime I attempt to read this radio I get a "Request not ACK/NAKed error". I'm using a RIB clone that has no problems with any other radios and an aftermarket prog cable which is wired according to diagram posted here.
I'm hoping it's just oversight on my part. Any help would be much appreciated.

You might have a defective housing. First, remove the housing and lightly buff the contacts in the bottom of the housing with
a pencil eraser, and wipe the contacts on the bottom of the radio chassis clean with a clean sheet of paper. Then reinsert it and see if you can read the radio.
Next, try a different housing from a radio that reads OK. If that's still not it, the radio may have a real problem.
Oh...make sure that your programming cable is an ASTRO Saber cable, not a SABER cable. They LOOK identical but the wiring is different and neither one works on the other radio without modification.
