Anyone know what "Protocol Entry Error" means when trying to read an astro radio (v8.5 software).
Additionally, when in the PC Config menu, hitting the "F6 Comm Test" shows the error "BUS DATA COLLISION ON TX ERROR"
Thanks in advance for your comments/answers
Astro programming error question: "Protocol Entry Error

I'm not an expert on this subject, but it sounds like the errors that you will get when running the RSS through Windows. If you are, DON'T. I do the "restart in DOS MODE" method on my Windows 98 computer, and I have a DOS startup disk for my Windows XP computer, and both methods work fine. I also recall getting those errors when the battery in my RIB went low.
Hope that helps.

Thanks for your ideas and suggestions. I did have the radio, rib, and power supply attached and working at the time of these tests. I also tried another power supply, and measured with a VOM as well, to rule out that problem. Still the same errors being indicated.
Once again, I appreciate your comments, and if there are any others I'd be grateful.
Thanks

Are there any solutions for this error that Motorama has mentioned in his post. I have 2 Astro Saber 3's. Read one changed a few things and programmed it just fine in CPS and RSS.....the other one in RSS I get >REQUEST NOT ACKed/NAKed ERROR< and when I try again it goes to >Protocol Entry Error< . When I try and read it with CPS it gives me "Communication Failed"
When doing a com test in RSS (9.03) with a true motorola RIB plugged in and running in DOS...it tells me Communication with Radio was Successful.
Radio was programmed about 2 monthes ago by CPS with no issues at all.

I had this same, exact problem, getting the same exact errors. I figured it was the RIB, but turned out to be my comm-port on my old laptop finally bit the dust. I tried testing just the Rib on another PC and it worked fine. I then found another old laptop and tested it there and it runs fine again. It was the comm port on my original laptop.
DO NOT run the DOS RSS from Windows or a DOS window within Windows. Also, choosing "Command Prompt" from the F8 is not the same as running a pure old DOS command.com.
