Does anyone know how he is making his mod? Is it something internal he is adding, or is it a software mod.

Re: HT1550-XLS FPP w/o Red Bettery
I just modified my HT1550s for FPP with any battery by cutting open 2 dead red batteries and removing the chip, then installing it inside the radios. There's more room in the VHF than the UHF, and you have to remove the chip RF choke to isolate it from the center terminal so battery status still works. It's a 1-wire chip and you only have to use 2 of its 6 leads - one to the radio side of where the chip choke was and one ground (lead with the dot.)
