Astro W9 head on Conventional Spectra/X9000

FYI

I bought a rear mount Astro W9 and tried it on my Spectra and X9000. It didn't power up right. So I took it apart and looked at it. Looked exactly the same as a Spectra/X9000 Systems 9000 head. I took the firmware out of one of my X9000 heads and put it in the Astro head AND IT WORKS JUST FINE ON MY X9000 and I would suspect the same for a Spectra.

Does anyone know where I can get part number HNV4026A which is the firmware part number for the X9000/Spectra head. My local motorola shop is getting the run around from big M.

Your best bet is to purchase or trade for the right 9000 head. A 1073D will work on a Syntor if it has not been programed as a Spectra. If it has you will need to blank out the EE-prom. Or you could get a full 8K Syntor head. Beware that most Syntor 9000 heads were set up as 2K 32 channel heads. If you have a 1078D W-9 head, I could trade you out the proper SyntorX 9000 head. I found out how to solve my HVN4026A problem and can easily convert astro w9 heads for use for the x9000 or non-astro spectra.

Got a few "junk" Spectra SMD control heads and pulled the firmware chips out. To convert the Astro W9 head to a Spectra A9 head all you have to do is change out the firmware chip and reprogram the head. I suspect you could convert a Spectra A9 head to and Astro W9 head by putting in an Astro head firmware chip and reprogramming it. I'd try that but I don't have an Astro Spectra.
