MANCOW NOW HAS AN ASTRO 3 : ) but needs help!!!

Post by mancow »

I am proud to annouce I am the new owner of an absolutely brand new condition Astro 3 VHF :P :P

But I need your guy's help.

The radio appeared to have been recased. I have no stickers to look for #. It is full of ham freqs and all are programmed with MODAT!!

It appears to work great, receives and transmits just fine. So, is there a way to check for any features, options, etc... without reading with RSS?

Also, I have access to version 8.5 but need help here. It establishes comm with the radio just fine. But, when I try to read it it first said checksum error  when just one bar started to form on the progress indicator. The next time it said, bus collission. This seems to me to indicate the RSS doesn't like the computer. Now, it is installed and running under 98 (I know a sin) but don't worry, I would never try to WRITE to it under these conditions. My problem is that I just don't see how to load the program on my dos machine. When looking at it in dos it doesn't show any executable commands. The only way it seemed to install was in windows. What is wrong here?

Help!

Disgregard last.....I was so excited I forgot what the hell I was doing.

The radio shop will likely be the place to go. I don't want any more doorstops.

The Astro Saber is pretty robust in RSS screw ups. DO NOT run the RSS under a DOS window in Win98, even to read. The way Microsoft wrote the serial port inface really sucks, and SOMETIMES allows the radio to be read.

Boot up with the F8 command and run RSS under the dos mode (command prompt only).

Now, you can read the radio with RSS and get the flashcode, or you can press side button 2 (two dots) and but the radio into the service mode when you turn it on. It should show the model, serial, HOST, DSP, EMC if secure equiped, and then the Flashcode. You have to press the button 5 times within 10 secs.
