ASTRO Spectra Plus

Post by ASTROMODAT »

What is the main advantage of the ASTRO Spectra Plus over the ASTRO Spectra? Is there any limitation on upgrading the ASTRO Spectra to an ASTRO Spectra Plus? I understand that you at least need a new VoCon for the Plus features.

How much $ for the new VoCon upgrade? Is there an XTS Plus on the way?

Is the Big Deal on the Plus VoCon that it supports AES? I just read today that the 3 digit Fed Boys are in the process of rapidly dumping DES-OFB in favor of the 256 bit, much more secure, AES algorythm. Is this the real driver for the new VoCon and the new "Plus" Model Type? Here we go, Homeland Security $s!!

FEDS USING AES NOW

Post by CHEFA2001 »

There goes inter-op OUT THE WINDOW

P25 will (maybe) make all angencies interop capable, however the feds won;t be and one side of the team will be in teh dark now

Anyone have information, such as links to the new AES modules, etc and do they support lower algorithyms such as des-ofb, des-xl, and such?

I have the Motorola PDF document (dated Aug 22, 2002) covering the new AES module for the XTS and ASTRO Spectra radios. Unfortunately, I can't seem to see how to attach a document inside of this Bat forum.

As to compatibility, you can program the new AES module for the old DES-OFB algorythm if you have old radios, as well as AES. This way, as the Local Boys move up to meet the Feds with the 256 bit AES (Advanced Encryption System) algorythm, all things are tranquill.

Isn't it terrible for Motorola, what with the Billions of dollars of new Homeland Security funding, that many local agencies will bite the bullet and opt for the new radios with AES? The module is pricey.

homeland security funding

Post by batdude »
