Astro Spectra cross breeding?

I have a VHF Astro Spectra, and a couple of 800 MHz Spectras, what I need is a 800 MHz Astro. Can the RF portions of the radios be interchanged and end up with what I'm looking for? What would i need to do when programming it? My purpose is to listen to the local Fire Department calls, so the transmitter would of course, not be needed.

sell the astro spectra and buy the right model. what you are talking about CAN be done.. but it's not for the faint of heart.

by the way, the RF board is different between platforms...and that's $$$$
