900 Mhz range extender for XPR4500 (ham bands)

Post by screa34 »

Hi,

I'm wondering if there is a way to make a simplex range extender for my XPR 4500 being using on DMR and analog. When I'm at work I can't hit any repeaters from inside the building but the car, parked 50 ft away, does fine. I'd like to cross-band from my XPR4500 to a 900 mhz radio, then use a 900 mhz HT from inside the office to stay connected.

I have two MTX9250s that will talk simplex to one another and I also have an MTX9000 that won't talk simplex, only does repeaters. This is only on low power and occasional light duty so I think using one of the HTs in the car on low power would be ok, but I don't know how to connect one radio to another. I'm open to buying a 900mhz mobile if that will help, but still don't know how to connect that up to my XPR4500?

If anyone has any suggestions I'm all ears.

thx,
josh

Uniden BC906W wireless microphone $50. Amazon. Of course, Motorola and Pyramid have pricier solutions. You will have to work out the pinouts to wire it up. 300 ft is the claimed range.
