NiMh Batteries for Minitor II / III / IV Fire Pagers???

I have recently (this week) taken over as the radio equipmet officer in my Volunteer Fire Dept. This means I have the wonderful task of Pager batteries. I don't think there is a more abused battery in the world than that of one of these pagers. Over charging, Under Charging, never gets drained all the way down, etc, etc, etc. It would seem that a NiCad battery is the worst battery you could use for these applications. Funny that is what every new radio and pager comes with. Anyway....
1. Is there a such thing as a NiMh battery for the Minitor II Pagers? They use their own special battery, not a AA or AAA or anything.
2. Will the regular old chargers for these devices work with a NiMh battery? The Minitor III & IV use AAA Batteries which have readily available NiMh versions. I just wonder if the chargers will be compatible. A few extra dollars for the NiMh batteries could save in the long run with toasted NiCads we use now. Not mention it would last longer when a situation arises that prevents it from getting charged sooner.
Any insight on this anyone?
