You'll need a AS2 OR 3 front sheild and housing and then a good copy of the early Astro saber depot RSS. I have converted many AS1'S to 3'S this way with no problems. The radio will always be a hack job and can never be returned to the depot.

RETURNING IT TO THE DEPOT

Post by CHEFA2001 »

I beg to differ, I've depot'd / rather Flat Rate'd a few of them.
COMPLETE refurb, new housing, latest host/dsp, etc..
Aligned to specs and all for $345.

I cannot recall if that was the exact amount, but it was in that ballpark.
My dept uses a few of them which have either been parts built or contain the "Chicago" flashcode....

They work great.

Motorola does repair them, as long as the s/n is not some freakish thing such as 1234567890 or someone's name.

You should go through a good mss and make sure you mention to have on the ticket stated that there is no permission granted, nor implied to alter, change, or modify the flashcode in any way.

Anyone else have good success stories like this?

You have made my day! I thought they would refuse to depot a legit parts radio. Thanks for the info.

Just be sure that you send through a dealer who deals with high end radios, depot's radios frequently, and most importantly, don't send in under your own name.
From experience, I see that they question less when it comes from a dealer and states specific things, like tune and allign, rx seems out of whack when rx'ng traffic, et.al.

Get it?
