New P25 Quantar Repeater

Post by ASTROMODAT »

In reviewing the current (Nov 2002) R3 catalog, I noticed a new model option for the Quantar repeater. Besides the $2750 UHF Conventional ASTRO CAI Operation QTQR option, there is also a new option under the conventional (non trunked) section. It is called "ASTRO 25 Site Repeater." Nomenclature X591AA, and APC 509. This is a new $7400 option. This is not insignificant, as it brings a bare bones Quantar (w/ 12 inch cabinet and no duplexer, no bells and whistles) from about $17k (plus Tax, shipping and RSS), to nearly $25k plus. Does anyone know what this new option is? Can I be P25 compatible by just ordering the $2750 CAI option?

I'm assuming that option will make it true P-25 9600 baud capable only. No analog or 3600 baud operation. It may seem like a step backwards almost, and more money, but it will probably allow you to take advantage of any future true P-25 options that come about.

I know for a fact that it is analog capable. Second, I mentioned it is Conventional, so why the reference to 9600 baud?
