Thanks for the posts to the earlier discussion about the Palm Beach area radio requirements. I would like to get some help with what I might need, like the XTS3000 or XTS3500. I live in Boynton and would like to listen in the Palm Beach and Broward county areas. Thanks for all of your help. Email me direct or post if you don't mind helping.

No problem...Boynton Beach PD and FD are digital, Boca PD & FD are digital, Delray PD & FD are Digital, but PBSO is not digital, they are on the Analog side of the system (the system is backwards compatibale and im sure the PBSO saved a few million doing it like this), plus they are coming from Standard HX320u's, TK-250's and HT90's....so any officer out there is more than happy to get what they got..its quite the improvement. If you need an XTS radio or ASTRO SABER radio (I recommend the ASTRO SABER due to the fact that it would be easier to get on the system there because I am able to generate system keys. Broward is NO PROBLEM I have everything all set for broward county ready to be put into your radio. They are Analog Smartnet IIi and I have had an MTX8000 B7 with their freq's and talkgroups since 1996. Right Now I am at the University of Florida but will be returning home for christmas break in about 2 weeks. If you need to buy An ASTRO radio, I can get you one.

They are trashing the state system....but not local government owned systems. If they disbanded every system in the state, im sure alot of cities and counties would tell them to go to hell because most of the Motorola systems that cover a small area (city or county) work pretty well because its easy to put up a system when the user requires a smaller coverage footprint. When you get a state that wants you to give 90% of coverage 90% of the time, you are faced with a challenge that is suited for only the highest level of engineers and technical people.....Even though the state system does not work well...it works better than I could probably build due to the complexity of linking sites and simulcasting....plus the digital settings really start to get on your nerves (like needing different Output powers than normal to make it perform as it should

I know Miami/Dade county uses the Ericcson system but they are not happy with it. Metro Dade Fire Rescue was going to use the Ericcson system but they gave it up because it did not work for them. The only time they use it is for Rescue to Hospital use. The rest of the time, they use the Motorolas. I know a lot of Metro Dade PD and they have horror stories about the Ericcsons.
Thanks again //y 2 Cents.

Yeah metro dade is pretty screwed up...but I think that its the system, not the actual ericcsson MRKII's. Those Ericsson MRK's are excellent radios, its just Dade got a second rate salesman and engineer who designed the system. Plus, unlike Broward or Palm Beach, no agencies in dade like to cooperate with each other, so thinking ahead about when a metro dade agent may have to cooperate with, lets say, city of miami, is not even really seriously taken into account, and its because the govenment is really unstable down there. It seems like every day I hear about a corrupt politician coming out of Miami-Dade. I wonder when the sytem was designed if they even could conceptualize that Miami-dade fire might want to migrate on to the PD's system. Metro dade fire uses Saber II's and MT1000's by the way on UHF 453.XXXX MHZ....I can hear it on a portable as far north as the palm beach county/broward line on occasion...but thats only with an MT1000 or HT600....cant do that on a jedi or radius.

When I worked down in Miami, I was told by the Miami Dade developer that Ericcson under bid Motorola and that is why they went for GE. A lot of the PD down there say that the Ericcson has a lot of problems, like changing channels while in a foot chase, switching on and off and making it impossible to transmit when they need to, and not too good in wet conditions. Along with many other problems. Now that Miami Dade spent way too much money and was able to pocket much of the orig. bid, they can't spend any more to go with Motorola.
By the way, what do you think one of the radios would go for? So I can start saving, or I can ask santa

You want a Motorola Digital Radio correct? First you must tell me if you want it new or used....then who you want to listen to, so we can figure out what options you need to either look for or select from the factory and then let me know...anywhere from like $3,500.00 to $950.00. to listen to Boynton, Boca, Delray, State ASTRO sytem, Miami Beach...you are gonna be on the high side of things...for PBSO, BSO, Coral Springs, Margate, all the regular Smartnet, you could spend as low as like $350.00 for an mtx8000 b5 or b7 private message me if you want to talk about this.
