Wondering if anyone else has had this problem, After programming my VHF SaberII, radio accepts new RPF, trying to transmit on any channel brings this signalling tone, just doesn't stop. acts as if channel is receive only. Reprogramming with minimal options doesn't help. Ideas? Thanks in advance.

What radios do you own?: X9000 thru APX

Just a thought, but it could be programmed with the wrong bandsplit, ie it cannot lock on a channel, or that you have a switch programmed for something that model saber cannot do.

Hi,
Is this a gov't surplus radio? I have a few that do the same thing and it turned out they were missing the reference oscillator. I am told this is part of the decommissioning process.

Hope this was pertinent, Eric

Jeez, that's stupid. Put in another reference oscilator and the radio's back like it was, needing only a warp adjustment to make sure it's right on frequency.

Haven't those dumbasses in charge of the radios figured out that it's faster, easier, and more effective to just blast in a blank codeplug with one itinerant test channel instead of tearing the radio apart, yanking a part out of it, and then reassembling it, without actually losing the sensitive data?

Idiots, I say!

I guess it depends on where you get the radios from. I got a couple that just had blank codeplugs blasted in... they overwrote the tuning data and everything. At least they left the DES modules in

The brain trust did the same to me. They pulled the oscillator modules, then sent them out with the DES modules and codeplug intact.

I got to pay money to replace modules that probably went into a trash can still working, and they did nothing to protect their frequencies / systems.

Best of all, they get to take a portion of my income to support this. Go figure.......

Thanks for all the input, did some more digging on this forum, and found another post that described the same problem. Next question, does anyone know the part number(s) of the missing oscillator? Also, anyone else have any left? Previous postings indicated someone may still have one or two lying around. Thanks again. Dan

Before you go buying a oscillator have you confirmed that you actually are missing it. Based on the info it sounds more like you may have done the last step before you hit the program button incorrectly. If you chose RFP values... rather than radio values when the prompt came up you probably have a mistuned radio. Check a freq at the bottom of the radio spread and one at the top and see if transmits, unless you have confirmed that you are actuallyu missing parts.

Hello all. Opened up the radio this evening, and I am indeed missing the ref. oscilator. Other than ordering one directly from 'M', anyone have a spare lying around, ready to be purchased? Thanks.
