I have a Plectron R719 and need to change the tones. Is this just a simple matter of adjusting the two coils? I see that there are jumpers "T1" through "T5" at each tone board. What are these for?
One last thing: I need to have a relay close upon activation of alert to set off our siren. What needs to be done in these things?

I know there are more modern ways to do this, but these units are just so reliable and last forever.
Our old Regency finally quit after 23 years and this Plectron's going to take it's place. Too bad I've never had the chance to ever even open one of these things until today.

One more thing- as I remember, the lamp that's out in front of the speaker only comes on once the alert is activated. I almost remember seeing this years ago when my brother used one of these. Am I right?

This one stays on whenever the power is on.
I gotta find a service manual on these!!

Plectron tones can be changed a limited amount by using the jumpers. I remember that from working on them years ago. I do not know of a way to measure the tone change by adjusting the screw in the middle of the coil since we always sent for a new board to make major changes.
The "alert light" on the front was an option. If you have that model, you could use that output to drive a relay and link it to a siren. (a relay for sirens was also an option).
Another way to do this is to hook a current tone board into the plectron (or other receiver) and bypass the original completely. Midian Electronics of Tucson, AZ makes several of this type of decoder. (Their instruction manual is difficult to follow). Most of them are PC programmed in DOS. I think they will also supply it preprogrammed.
I prefer working on the old Motorola "firefighter series" that are setup using plug-in reeds which are still widely available.

Good luck

Plectron tone board were good for five freqs. per board....... You can not adjust them much more without changing some caps..... If you tell me what you have I can tell you what the other freqs are available on the boards you have...... Normally if you wanted to trip a siren or other device you added a RSO (remote switching option) to the unit and that gave you a relay contact that would be timed (adjustable) and than reset. The light coming on or flashing after it was tripped was another option.... normally that was a power indicator..... hopes this helps

The unit currently has 1985/910 installed. I need 892.6/937.5.

Thanks all!

Hi Again,

Plectron had 60 standard tones that were used and 892.6 and 937.5 are NOT standard.....

You should be able to take the board that has the 910.0 and change it to either the 892.6 by just retuning it (the range of the board in the 910.0 position which is position #4 is 892.2 -928.2) or 937.5 by moving the jumper to position # 5 which is 950.0 (the range here is 931.4 - 969.0)Now as far as the 1985.0 board you have it won't work for what you want, you would have to change 4 caps (no big deal) but you would also have to change the tuning coil (don't know where you would get one). Now if you have another plectron lying around with another 910.0 board your all set just change it and retune it. With both tone boards you will have to put the diode in the "A" or "B" position so the duotone decoder board knows which tone is which.

Hope some of this helps
