Why would an Astro Spectra be configured so that the power button does nothing? When power is applied, it is on- the power button does not turn it off. I have to really use my imagination to think of a need for this, so I guess it could be a malfunction. Anyone aware of a way to configure this?

I would guess that this option would be useful in cases where you don't want your officers or agents to ever 'accidentally' turn their radios off, or deliberately, either, so they can always be contacted. Setting an audible minimum volume setting for that radio via the RSS would be consistent with that type of configuration.

It could also be useful from a system tracking standpoint. You could poll the system at a certain time after the start of a shift, and by seeing what radio are responding and which ones aren't, you know which of your people are working and which ones are at Krispy Kreme getting another dozen.

I would have to agree with Elroy. Here in Orange County, several of the fire departments activate the station's tones by sending a page to the radio. It would kind of suck if someone turned the radio off in an attempt to get some "quiet time" (aka 2pm nap) and subsequently turned off the station tones.
