Adding Features on AS3

Post by dog pecker gnat »

Ive got a vhf AS3 and it has MDC signalling. If perhaps I wanted Quick Call 2 signalling, since I only use conventional stuff, no digital or anything, can you take a codeplug and force new features into the radio?

If anyone has any ideas let me know.

Yes, but it's best to use MTSX lab to force it in. I can't remember the correct steps, but it messes up the soft pot values so you have to make sure that copy them down before you force it in...

QCII isn't available for the Astro series. It would be nice, but its not.

The best you can do, and that I have seen, is:
MDC1200
MODAT (hard to get legit, easy hacked)
Singletone

Just as a reminder, the flashcode decoder also works with non Astro radios so not all the options you see on it applies.
Lowband radio. The original and non-complicated wide area interoperable communications system

Ah, see? You learn something new every day... I didn't know that about the QCII.

It goes along with the other post...you see all these HT1250's that do just about everything for $700, yet your basic AS or XTS for $3500 can't do anything!

Arrrrggghhhh!

As a friendly reminder, whenever you force a radio, and you need a depot repair, you may run into problems with features, s/n's etc don't jive etc.

Do you know what 'CDM' means in the CDM750/1250/1550 series? It stands for 'Customer Defined Mobile'. At least, that's what I've been told by Motorola. The HT series should have been named the 'CDP' series (Customer Defined Portable), since they follow the same mold. Supposedly, Motorola listened to the end users & provided what they wanted for the CDM series. I can believe it, since every feature under the sun seems to be provided. It's a shame they didn't think to provide the same support for the far more expensive Astro series. In this case, Motorola seems to think they know better than the end users. Strange, isn't it? Listen to Joe Contractor off the street, but not to Joe Public Safety.

Try MDC paging.
It IS much nicer on repeaters than QCII.
The only dray back that I could see is that you Jakes and Buffs can't get a Minitor3/2/1 to do MDC, and FD's use QCII everywhere.
The other drawback is there are alot of Radius radios that don't do MDC.
But,
With the cheap GP's/HT's and Maxtracs that are avail. I made the move.

Having Group/Fleet/Indiv. Select Call, Call Alert, and Radio Check on a 32ch maxtrac is nice.
The Customers Love it!
