I just got all the plugs wired up to a used SVA (Converta-Com) I purchased. This SVA did not come with the necessary harness so I had to piece together the necessary plugs and wiring. Everything seems to work except that I am experiencing a very low output to the speaker. I am using just a plain 8 Ohm non-amplified speaker.

I am begining to wonder if the audio level is reduced for the usage of an amplified speaker? I realize that there are Pins available on the accessory plug for power to a remote amplified speaker but thought the full audio of the radio would be available at the plug.

I know nothing about this SVA except for the info I have gotten from "TOM in DC" and the Bat-Labs Saber area.

If only an amplified speaker can be used this may change my mind on the application of this SVA.

Thanks for any help on this!

Eddie: The output of the SVA is line-level audio which will not drive a speaker to any decent volume level by itself. You have to use the powered speaker with the SVA. For $25 or so you can pick up a nice one. Except for the heavier multi-conductor cable it's really no different physically from using a non-powered Motorola speaker, and the audio which results is really good.

Well "TOM in DC" you have come to my aid again with some very useful info. on this SVA "Converta-Com."

I must admit the Motorola Engineers pulled a fast one by hiding the Amp in the speaker. Makes you wonder why they did not integrate it into the SVA to start with ?

I am using this SVA in an unconventional way as a base setup with my Astron Power supply that I use for my Amateur gear.

Maybe, I can locate a Motorola amplified speaker at a decent price.

Thanks Again for the assistance!
