Ok, so my friend buys a brand new 2003 Toyota 4runner. We are planning to install the usual array of Fireman lights, strobes, LED's, etc.. and a 40 watt UHF CDM1550. While tumbing through the manual, we found the following scarey warning:

Can anyone please advise me what to do!!! Where should I mount antenna? Radio? Is this really a true warning, or just a C.Y.A. for the manufacturer??

Its a bit of both. Basically don't place radios or antennas near the vehicle computer is what that really says. STRONG Near Field RF doesn't get along with computers of any kind if they aren't properly shielded.
Just use good installation practices, follow SAE guidelines for your wiring and such and make sure your RF connectors are done properly and you'll be fine.

As Apco25 states, follow SAE guidelines (unlike most 'installers') and you'll have no problems. Don't route strobe cables near sensitive SRS/ABS wiring, if possible.
Always ground the strobe cable "drain" lead ONLY AT THE POWER SUPPLY END go a solid chassis ground using #12 min. wire.
Use the proper size fuses and don't get power for equipment from the OEM fuse panel. Go to the underhood junction or distribution center.

Check with Toyota where you should mount the equipment, too. You do not want a two way radio being ripped loose by the air bag beingf deployed. They may also tell you how they would prefer the power leads to be routed, and the coax. (ie which cable trays to stay away from) But as it was stated earlier, it is a bit true, and a bit hysteria. (Covering their butts for any legal implications)
