Hi All
Just a quick question. I have purchased this great digital receiver but I have the following question on an ASTRO system.
Is there a PL or similar tone transmitted when users are using Encryption on an ASTRO base. The scanner stops and all I can here is R2D2 stlye voice which I beleive is DES. It receives clear APCO very nicely.
A mate of mine has an agency radio and when the top A / B switch is in the B mode the clear APCO voice is heard and no R2D2.
In A mode you can hear R2D2 as well as the clear voice?
Any clues

The Uniden scanner will stop on encrypted transmissions and you will hear the "R2D2" audio. This is working as designed. I do not agree with the design but that is how they designed it.
As far as the agency radio, your friend has an encryption module in the radio and it is properly keyloaded to allow him to receive the encrypted transmissions (A position).
No scanner will allow you to decode encrypted transmissions.
Rumors are that a future version of ARC 250 will allow the scanner to bypass encrypted transmissions when operating in virtual mode.

Hi George
Thanks for the prompt reply. I was a bit sceptical of the 785D but so far it has performed excellently.
I'm not interested in decoding the encrypted tx's just stopping the audio. I found an article that refers to changing a status bit on a trunked system to preventing it from listening on encrypted tx's.
Another interesting fact is the radio does not always display ENC on an encrypted tx. Could this be a different standard?
I can hardly wait for the update to BC250/785D Pro.
