Antenna question

Post by beaujo_fire »

I have seen several threads refering to the fiberglass incased vhf and uhf antennas that some EMS and FD units are sporting on their vehicles now days.

As I have always thought, these antennas don't perform as well as a 1/4 wave antenna does.

What I am wanting to know how do the small antennas like these perform on the 800mhz bands? Does anyone have any experience with these?

Thanks for any and all suggestions.

Are you refering to the little stealth looking ones that kinda resemble and upside down soup can?

yes, they are about 1inch to 1 1/4 inches in diameter and about 2 to 2 1/2 inches tall and usually white or black. They spin right onto the nmo connector.

Thanks,

Anything but VHF has gotten good reviews. We use them on UHF and they are fine.
