Astro Spectra host/dsp question

Post by Microwave Mike »

I am looking for a host/DSP pair to version for a Astro Spectra I am working on. The radio was a newer radio that got it's brain zaped by lighting. I have no record of the host/dsp to give /\/\ for a new Vocom board. All I know is it was a D series with 1 meg. A search of this site and others have only given me a lot of host/dsp for AS3's and XTS's.
Need help.

spectra depot...

Post by batdude »

mike, i had an 800 in the same condition, sorta.

i bought it on ebay for $75 (!) and it was completely smoked - looked like the radio jumped a car or something... i could smell the smoked boards before i even opened the box.

anyway, when i sent it to the depot (after un-funking the smell) they called me - their only question was "what flashcode" to put into the radio... it had the older WHITE serial # tag that did not list the flash.

bottom line - host / dsp should NOT matter - the host/dsp will be uplifted to the most current revisions AS LONG AS YOUR FLASHCODE WILL SUPPORT THEM - i.e. - you can't give them an analog operation only flashcode and expect the DSP be be uplifted.... if your radio has an IMBE flash (1xxxxx-xxxxxx) or smartzone flash (5xxxxx-xxxxx) then you should automatically get the latest and greatest.

hint - ask the depot if you can get the newest revision RF board for narrow band operation (2.5khz capable) - this makes your radio much more valuable....

and...

if it's already at the depot - ask them how much to upgrade to an astro spectra PLUS - this gives you 512 modes and the ability to do 3600/9600bps trunking ....

What radios do you own?: X9000 thru APX

Just remember, if you upgrade to the Astro Spectra Plus. you will lose WAC AMSS options and affliate on PTT if you want to monitor trunked systems without having the radio xmiting on them.

Also there's the encryption problem too...

ie: the older KVLs won't work with the 'plus' models

AS Host/DSP question

Post by Microwave Mike »

I am sending only the Vocom board. The rest of the radio is in good shape. The last time I did this they wanted to know what the host/DSP was before the flashcode. The host/DSP is loaded at one location, then the Flash is loaded at another. That is why I need a current Host/DSP to provide. The flash was just a digital SZ. Not even 9600 baud.

The upgrade Spectra Plus VOCON board is quite pricey at $750.

That is an XTS 3000. I think he was looking for an ASTRO Spectra mobile.
