AStro RSS version question
I've got RSS 09.05.00 for Astro portables. Will this work if I've my saber's been programmed with CPS 3.0?

And I'm presuming that's by my version 9.05? Err!! I've got LAB 3.04.... Someone told me if I read the radio, but didn't unpack it, I could program it back, bringing the last programmed version DOWN so it would work with older software. My instructions my be off.. I did a little research on the board here and others have mentioned MTSX LAB as well. Can anyone give me a little insight on how to do this?
Thanks, Scott.
Thanks, Scott.
Actually, even though the CPS 3.0 was the first that didn't come with the equivalent DOS disks, the 'readme' states it is still compatible with DOS RSS 9.05...but that they did not guarantee compatibility for any future CPS versions. I personally haven't tried it, but have no reason to disbelieve Motorola.
Even if it wasn't compatible, you should be able to simply take your saved 9.05 RSS codeplug, and dump it into the radio with your 9.05 RSS.
If that didn't work, the next step would be to try using MTSX LAB 3.00.02 that's floating around. Read the 9.05 codeplug, and once it gives the 'codeplug too new' error, use the 'read/write with no pack/unpack' option to dump the packed codeplug into the radio.
This procedure will NOT work with Astro 3.04.00. It doesn't recognize IMBE, and will give an error something like 'invalid block format, unable to unpack from source' (been a long time, don't really remember). If you then try to dump in the packed codeplug, you'll get 'fail 01/92' afterwards. Weird how the MTSX LAB doesn't have a problem with it.

never implied legal. didnt appareciate how he has treated his friends lately regardless of 'personal' issues. NUTS is regarding his irrational behavior he has displayed to his 'friends'. i have referred to it as 'flakey' in the past. if he gets his act together, i am lookin to buy another radio from him. but untill he has his 'issues' figured out and resolved, i'll hold on to my money.

Guys
I just wanted to saythat i have had limited email conversations with "nick" over the last few months, and he has been nothing but helpful and freindly to me. Yes he somtimes does not email you back right away, but speeking for myself I am a confessed computer geek, and even I go a day or two without checking email.
Lets face it the man has a product that is in demand, and has obviously done well and done a good job with these radios or nobody would care who the heck he was. If just 2 or 3 people got a pile of junk from him that would be it his rep would be ruined. I feel that if for whatever reason the man has not been available to his usual freinds that is his business.
I would say if you have purchased a radio from this guy consider yourself lucky, I myself was too late and have never had a chance to do business with him, but i have a sneaking suspission that any ill will towars him may be a result of mabee former customers who now find their supply of resonably priced equipment gone.
I have "met many freinds on this bord, and I say wish "Nick"luck in whateever he is doing now, freinds dont have to do things for us to be considerd freinds, and anybody that has had good dealings with Nick should wish him well.
