Where are ASTRO radios made?

Post by Josh »

I've noticed that on every Astro radio I've ever come across all it has marked on it is "Made by Motorola"- it never mentions in what country.

All of my non-Astro radios state their manufacure as in: "Manufactured in USA by Motorola", or "Manufactured in Malaysia by Motorola".

Why don't Astro radios have a manufacture country marked on them? Are they made in USA?

they are made in the same facility as your favorite, Push-to-Talk(tm) Walkie-Talkies(tm) that use Direct Connect(tm) and can get things DONE.

Plantation, Florida.

Astro radios are no longer manufactured in Plantation.

Subscriber radio hardware and software engineering is still done in Plantation, but the hardware is all manufactured in Schaumburg, IL.

The ASTRO line is made in and out of the US by all multiple comanys that win the temporary contract. Different items are made at different locations and even at different times depending upon the need. Some of the ASTRO products or parts (boards/cases) are made by motorola, most I think are other electronic companys.

EX. I know that some ASTRO and regular spectra control heads for the Spectra series and Spectra ASTRO and regular siren units are made completely by K-byte/ Reptron electronics in Tampa Bay, FL.

It all depends on who gets the contract and once that short contract runs out it is up for grab by the cheapest company.

Motorola really is very involved in a company that wins a contract, they are always inspecting and doing quality control checks.
