Got bored and put a RMN5021A Commander Series mic for the XTS radio line on an A4 MT2000, and got the famillar "connected" beep. Then i tried the remote functions and they work.
The channel knob, emergency button, and two side buttons will operate the radio fine.
the + - buttons on the front do not adjust audio, but i dont consider it a big deal..
I think this is a fluke, but cool. Has anyone else done this?
The MT i have has a 1.42 version controller firmware.

The XTS3000 uses the same pinout on the accessory connector as the other MTSX series radios, so it's possible...pretty cool to!
I wonder though, how does it change channels through the accessory port...I didn't know there was a line for that input.

I didnt know there was a port for channel change either. I would think there is a data bus & corresponding ground that it uses.
There was a picture of the 5021 on a thread here awhile back, you mite try looking for it. Ill try and find a pic.

- What radios do you own?: Motorola, Icom, Sunair (HF).
How about an A9
I'd be curious to know if the +/- buttons (and everything else) would work with a full-keypad model MT2000. Soon as I can cut loose $100+ or so, I just may try it out.

Nope, volume controls wont work on a full feature mt2k either.
Tried it on an mtx, works on it as well, minus volume.

mt2000
I have done the same thing, also out of shear boredom, with my A7 MT2000 and got the same result.
The mic only worked if i connected before turning the radio on, and the volume buttons didnt work (not a big deal). The side buttons, ptt, and channel knob worked fine.
However, probably the one reason I use the conventional mic instead 9 of 10 times (aside from it looking kinda odd on my mt2000) is because the cord on the commander mic is so short. I'm not a very big guy but it tugs at my shoulder with the radio on my belt, it gets annoying. Also, it doesnt fit on the FDNY style shoulder strap.
