Saber I: help?

Post by EKS »

After reading Larry Page's post about the saber bandsplit modules I decided to open up mine and finally find out what split it is. (I guess it was hacked out of band when I got it)

When I opened it up I noticed a diode on the rear was only half connected.

The diode in question is just to the left of the chip marked "65R53". It doesn't look factory. Almost like someone put it there because the one underneath it went bad or something. Here are two pics of the component in question.

Anyone with a service manual know what this is for or if it should be reattached? The radio works fine right now. I guess I'm more concerned if this was a bad hack job and it will screw up the radio.

The diode in question was mounted between

I enhanced your photo a little to make it a bit
more easy to see.

That particular diode is across pins 5 and 7 (3 and 4?) of the 3/4 Pole Filter module in my VHF Systems Saber.

It has a marked Part Number part number of 4151 which I would think would be a 1N4151(listed as a small signal diode).

Lack of the proper schematics for this has me puzzled as to what purpose it serves but one side goes to a regulated 5 V source.

For what its worth my 4148 has a 0.567V drop on my fluke meter diode test with it in circuit.
