Morning All from a rather chilly Melbourne, Australia
Hopefully someone can shed some light on my ridiculous situation.
I have my best customer wanting some secure comms. We supply them with 50 odd mobiles, 40 odd portables all analogue conventional UHF band stuff - and its all Motorola.
They have an eavesdropping problem from within and need 5 units to have secure capable comms amongst each other in simplex.
My brief, we have about $25K to spend and we don't want others to be able to hear what is said, 2nd hand gear in good nick would be OK
Off I go to my local M dealer. Sorry can't sell you Astro, restricted to government and high end commercial - you don't fall under that category go away.
Can't buy DVP for the same reasons. They suggested add on Midian modules, however my understanding is you need to bastardise the radios to get them to work.
Guys, I want 5 mobiles that a conventional scanner will not be able to listen to and provide some form of voice security - prefer not to use inversion as the recovered audio still sounds crappy and not have to have the radio bastardised in the process.
I've been told I can't buy 2nd hand gear from OS as it will not be type approved for Australia. Looking at my waris portables they still come out of Malaysia as do most other waris portables.
Is there a low tier ASTRO mobile to service the 465 - 490 mhz band ?
Am I being lead down the garden path by a not to helpful M person ?
Your thoughts appreciated
Mike

- What radios do you own?: iPhone, Blackberry, HT220
Midian does make a number of inversion and rolling code modules for the Waris series, as well as the HT1000, that are plug-and-play option boards, and do not require any wiring or "basterdization" of the radio.

One thing to consider with inversion versus digital decision is whether you need to pass the audio through a repeater. Inversion and rolling code analog scrambling can be passed through a standard analog voice repeater, while any digital scheme will require a digital repeater.
