Astro Spectra squelch settings

Post by Pj »

Now that I have my 2nd Astro Spectra (VHF and 800), I have noticed that neither open squelch until you hit 0. The spectra's would always open up once it hit a certain threshold. Needless to say, when they are set down to 1 they do not scan very well. I am just not sure how high I will go until I start to not hear what I want to hear, but too low to impead scanning.

Any thoughts?

The Astro Spectra has a ridiculously slow scan speed anyway, if you scan more than 3 channels expect to "lose" the first word lots of the time. I haven't noticed any improvement in the scanning speed by going "higher" in the squelch setting. On all of ours that I have seen (450-482 100w), the squelch is quite a bit above theshold even at a setting of 1.
