MTS2000 from 6 button display to full keypad ?

I have an MTS2000 with a front display and 6 button keypad.
I have replaced the front cover with one that has a display and a full keypad.
The display works, but the radio still programs and performs like a 6 button display only.
I think the rss still sees the radio as a 6 button display because of the radio model number (6 th character being F instead of H)

Does anyone have a way to solve this so the radio will use the full keypad options?

You need mtsx LAB RSS to add the rest of the buttons to the codeplug.

Read about toolproofing on Batlabs before you touch that radio with LAB.. Could become the most expensive paperweight you have ever owned.

I speak from experience. I've toolproofed a MTS before. I was extremely lucky and someone rebuilt the codeplug for me which restored the radio without me having to send it to Florida.

The same person who fixed the radio explained to me what exactly toolproofing was for, why labtools will toolproof a radio even though you don't change any settings and how to make a safe backup of your radio's codeplug so that you can experiment with the codeplug in a s-record format and still be able to restore your radio if you blow it.

Experience is the best teacher, right?

Anyways back to the topic: You need to program the number keys into the radio and tell the radio that it has a full keypad/display so that it addresses the keyboard/display controller correctly. Like was already mentioned, you have to use labtools to make this modification and since you have a MTS, you need to know the controller version inside your radio. To get this, power up the radio, press the bottom black button above PTT about 5-10 times after the SELF TEST clears the display. The radio will go into test mode and display the model number, serial number, controller version (Rx.xx) and then flashcode if there is a flashcode beyond the original factory flash. The original factory flashcode is on the back of the radio on the bottom left of the ID sticker (mine is 0000020000008 which checks out on the decoder wheel, but doesn't show up in test mode).

If your controller is V5.41 or less, then you can safely make the needed changes in labtools to enable the full keypad.

Hey Bubbasnest. Just checking in. I still have not been able to make mine (MTS2000)work the full front display.
