I've looked through the archives and haven't been able to track down any help on the following problems so any assistance will be greatly appreciated.
I have 2 99 channel MT1000's (both VHF) that I have trouble with.
The first one will power on and receive fine but will not transmit at full power - I only get enough output to make it about 10 feet . The transmit light does not come on when this is occurring. The rig was working fine when I noticed this. I tapped it with my hand and it would work for a while then stop transmitting again. I've checked solder connecttions and the antenna but thus far no luck. any Ideas??
The second MT1000 works fine until you press the PTT. Then you can transmit a full message. When you release the PTT about 85% of the time the radio goes into the power up routine (displays 88's and power up self test beep) then you can transmit again. I've cleaned every accessible contact. tightened all visible screws and even swapped the radio exterior/interior in case the baseplate where the battery hooks on is bad. I still have the same problem. Again, Any ideas??

Thanks in advance,
Ray Smith

If you are 100% sure the connection between the antenna connector and tranceiver board is good, I would check the voltage on the volume on/off switch. Make sure there isn't a voltage drop while transmitting, on the red wire that connects to the on/off switch. If there is a voltage drop of 1 to 2 volts or more I would replace the volume control. Do not just clean the contacts because the problem will come back. Dave

Thanks for the info - I'll be opening both rigs up tonight to check out the switch. I'll let you know how it worked
