the patient: conventional saber III UHF 440-470, unknown model number (no tag). received DOA. found incorrect PA installed (403-433), melted control top near antenna connector, and blown 5A fuse on main board. replaced control top, installed correct PA module, and replaced fuse. radio now powers up with all characters on display activated. does not respond to keypad input, monitor button, PTT, or anything else. only other sign of life is the usual soft "click" from the speaker when the radio is powered off. RSS will not read radio - "serial I/O error." suggestions welcome as i'm not certain where to go with this next.

Hi:

I have a little detail example of some
things to look out for on a post futher
down from here.

Its under Saber 1

Basically, if you can get access to the PC
Board while the radio is under test, there
are some detailed photos showing some very
important test points....If any of these values are not inline with your radio, you
could have a more serious problem.

You may have a corrupted Primary Code Plug.

I have been seeing alot of those come into
our shop lately, and sometimes they can be
easy, sometimes, they can be a real hassle.

In any event, if you give up, or get stumped,
were more than happy to give some advice to
you...
