I have 4 MTS2000 mgz. radios that I would occassionally like to change frequencies and options in.The local radio shop pops me for $40.00 each time I want to change 1 frequency or PL tone. I work in a correctional facility and use the radio to monitor my work frequency and also the police and sheriff at my location. Can anyone walk me through the steps to buy the software from Motorola or have any other ideas to help me out?
Thanks-alot,

of you dont want to pay full price there are always yahoo auctions otherwise. i think you have to fill out some form buy the ribs and cabling and also have a dos based 486 computer for starters.

but depending on how often you feel like changing freq's at least if the store screws up the programming they have to fix it.

you make a paperweight then you have a nice looking one that will cost 350+ to fix

Hi:

YES ! You should have no problems in
aquiring the proper hardware or even
some Clones to Re-program your radios.

There are no Special Forms to purchase
Rib boxes, no special forms to purchase
Cables, and all you truly need is a 386-486-25 Series Computer.

The hardware set ups can run you anywhere
between 175.00 on the low end to 300.00 on the high end.

There is a Host of dealers and private
parties that will sell you Cheap stuff all
the way to Factory Motorola hardware.

One thing I would strongly recomend is the
use of at least a Motorola Factory Rib box.

MTS2000 are a pretty sensitive radio, and if
you should make a mistake, you could have a
expensive paper weight untill repairs are made.

There " IS " a Motorola RSS License Issue, and I can send the paper work to you for free, or you can get it from Motorola.

All you have to do is call 1-800-422-4210
Push # 1, and order it...Its Free, NO
Account is required.

I believe the RSS License aggreement is a RPX4719G, and once you have sent in the License kit, you can purcahse " Any " RSS under the agreement. The part number for the
MTS Software is a RVN4176G.

The only drawback, is the cost of the RSS, and that will run you somewhere on the order
of 300.00

So if you wish to get a Clone Cable ( Clone
Cables are OK if built well ) those from
reptable dealers / persons will run anywhere
from 65.00-85.00, and if you are handy, you
can build one with the information on the Batlab site....All you need is a OLD Mic
and some good skills. The Factory ones are
horribly expensive ( 240.00 ) and good Clones
work just as well as the Motorola ones do.

Rib Boxes on the other hand, there is alot
of varied opinions, I just recommend the Motorola ones due to the Electronics inside,
and the investment value you have in your radios.

Some handy persons can build one " Exactly" as Motorola if again you are handy.

So from there, a good 386-486-25, and getting
the RSS from Motorola ( recommended ) you are
all set.

If you would like some more detailed information, feel free to contact me
at anytime @ [email protected]

More than willing to help you get started, and after you consider the 160.00 a programming session, getting your own set
up will pay for itself real quick

If you have any associates that have the same
radio, you can even recover some of your costs.
