Lab RSS is generally used by motorola themselves, does all sorts of neat tricks that the normal user should not be allowed to do. This includes but isn't limited to blanking logic boards, hex editing the controler, and various other DANGEROUS things that SHOULD NOT be attempted by the general user.

Over time, these pieces of software commonly refered to as Depot or LAB have made it onto the internet.

These are VERY dangerous pieces of software to use if you do not know what you are doing. I'm sure getting caught for using lab software is much worse than the penalty from "pirating" normal rss.

Legally speaking, lab RSS is no different than pirated copies of regular RSS. The additional restrictions on it are Motorola's own corporate policy restrictions and there is no force of law behind them unless you signed an agreement with them that covers such issues.
