Recently I acquired a radio that looked like an MCS2000 Tier III (Full Keypad, 2 line display) radio. However, examination of the radio yielded this to be a Nextel/Iden radio. As bizarre as this question sounds, is there anyway to reflash this radio with an MCS2000 Firmware (I realize costs are involved) and converting this radio back to an MCS2000 800 MHz Radio?

If you would rather not post and would rather e-mail me direct for more details use

Thanks in advance

Yep, this radio came from Ebay.

I saw one listed today that stated it was a Nextel Version MCS2000 and the seller reported that Rockford Depot advised that it could be flashed /firmware converted/updated whatever you want to call it to an MCS2000.

See the following link for info

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 1344638390

Radio is identical to one I received from another seller except it arrived with a conventional radio mic and not the "cell like" handset.

It sounded vaguely possibly since the MCS2000 is a completely programmable radio for format/protocol etc. I just am not sure.

Once I get the unit over to the local radio shop I'll have them call Rockford Depot and see if this is "seller misinformation" or really true.

Either way, that's a really interesting setup. I have never seen that before. At least you can resell it if the depot can't do anything for you.

I would be surprised if it can be done,, remember that Nextel is digital and the MCS's are not

the mcs2000's are 1-25 watt.....the Nextel mobiles I believe are only able to do .5 to 3 watts. and if you can do the mobiles than theoretically you should be able to do the poratbles to do simplex because the features are essentially the same....if you could who would want a 3 watt MCS2000...although you could hook it up to a mini converta com amp for a 25 watter.
