What i did to make the adapter is to get a double ended 9pin connector shell for custom making gender changers and adapters, and then a male and female solder cup d-sub connector, and just wired it as shown in the batlabs picture at the link above.

So when i want to program a Vertex radio i just unplug the serial cable from the computer and plug the adapter on to it and plug back into the computer. Of course, you could also make the same thing for the rib end of the serial cable if you wanted using a 25pin adapter for the rib box clones.
If you need a cable for Vertex HT's i can dig around and find the info i have for building the various cables. I would hate to pull apart the ones i already built and tested to figure out the wiring when i know i have a web page saved somewhere showing all the cables.
