a few RIB questions

When an RLN4008 RIB is ordered direct from M, does it come with the power supply? or do you have to purchase it seperately?

and does it come with a RIB to Computer cable, or does that have to be purchased seperately also?

My guess, after looking on MOL, you must have to purchase them separately.

But don't pay their ridiculous prices for them, geez, $24.25 for the power adapter and $52.00 for the 9 pin serial cable.

Two words on those prices, "BEND OVER".

But then, if your willing to put $200 into buying an original RIB perhaps you have the money to burn on the OEM cables for it as well.

I got about $70 into a aftermarket RIB and cables, and i can program any radio out there reliably. I even use it with an adapter to program Yaesu/Vertex radios.

What i did to make the adapter is to get a double ended 9pin connector shell for custom making gender changers and adapters, and then a male and female solder cup d-sub connector, and just wired it as shown in the batlabs picture at the link above.

So when i want to program a Vertex radio i just unplug the serial cable from the computer and plug the adapter on to it and plug back into the computer. Of course, you could also make the same thing for the rib end of the serial cable if you wanted using a 25pin adapter for the rib box clones.

If you need a cable for Vertex HT's i can dig around and find the info i have for building the various cables. I would hate to pull apart the ones i already built and tested to figure out the wiring when i know i have a web page saved somewhere showing all the cables.

My RIB is the Sandy Ganz design, works superb for all Moto radios, mobile, HT, etc.

The RIB, power supply and cable are purchased seperately. Believe it or not, this does help to keep costs down for you. Imagin what you would have to pay if Motorola had to keep an inventory of RIB kits PLUS the individual items.

There would be four kits as follows:

Kit 1 - RIB, 110V supply 9 pin cable
Kit 2 - RIB, 110V supply 25 pin cable
Kit 3 - RIB, 220V supply 9 pin cable
Kit 4 - RIB, 220V supply 25 pin cable

Hello.

What I would like to see is a combo RIB/computer keyloader interface.
Computer keyloaders are almost never seen outside of federal government and military.
This is unusual, as the computer can make things much easier.
