Is it possible to parallel a remote AstroTac receiver onto the Quantar's receiver without the use of a Comparator? Will this cause noise on the system, since for instance a weak signal maybe heard at the Quantar even though it may be full quieting into the remote receiver? Has anyone ever tried this?

Quantar remote receiver question

Currently it is a analog setup, but will be converted to digital in the near future. The extra receiver would be placed in a lower level or basement type of area, which I expect both receivers will unmute from time to time depending on the location of the portable user. I am trying to avoid the use of a comparator for just two receivers, but it sounds like that is the only way to go.

What about installing a second receiver into the Quantar and installing an antenna in the remote area? You'll need to use a low loss heliax feeder depending on the band and the length of the cable run. I've not actually tried second receiver operation as the software in our Quantars is a little old for that feature.
On the other hand, thinking about heliax, why not forget the idea of the second receiver and run Andrew leaky radiax feeder right thru your whole building?
This could be connected either to the antenna port of your duplexer or just to the preselecetor input of the receiver.

Quantar Second Receiver
Unfortunately, the second Quantar recevier slot is for a different split in the same band. Even worse, looking at the schematic, it seems like all the hardware for voting exists in the Quantar between it's two rx slots. Sorry.. firmware won't support this. Strange, especially when cellular and iDEN all use diversity receivers.... buy the site controller, and comparators... $$$ ad naseum.
As someone suggested, your best bet is a distributed antenna system. Use a 50/50 splitter (or 90/10...whatever is appropriate) and cover your building that way.
