I have never used it myself, but this is what I have gathered:

If you have VSLEP codeplug, you can flash it into another radio, and that radio will become whater the codeplug contained.

If you have an IMBE codeplug, and you try to flash it into the radio, it will kill the radio.

You can go VSLEP to VSLEP, IMBE to VSLEP, but not VSLEP to IMBE or IMBE.

This is true with 3.04 I believe. That was written before IMBE. Rumors are you can do anything with V8 Lab, but its supposely copy protected and you need a SRIB with special firmware that is not available outside of Motorola.

Also, if you flash IMBE to VSLEP, you cannot go back to the IMBE codeplug. Its a one way street.

I'm not posting anything that's not common knowledge here. But, the v8 lab was cracked some time ago. It doesn't really do much good, though. Its best features are apparently dependent on a smartrib with a special version firmware installed.

It is presumed that it handles IMBE.

However, it IS independent of system keys.

As a general rule of thumb, don't actually use version 3.04 if you can possibly avoid it. You can bugger a radio with it, and do such a job that your only course of action is either to send it to the depot (I bought it like this at a hamfest! I swear!) or sell it on ebay 'as is' or ring the trash can with it.
