Astro Delay

Post by Dale Earnhardt »

Has anybody ran into this, its not that big of a deal but I notice that the astro of mine, dont have the 180msec delay on it, it acutally recieves the same time interval like all my other radios I have. Anybody have a clue what it is? or dose it need to be retune? cause the rx dose kind of sucks alittle now compare to these vertex VX-900

What radios do you own?: X9000 thru APX

Go: MAIN/CHANGE/VIEW/CONV/PERS/OPTIONS and under the Busy LED option should be Rx Unmute Delay, and pick what you like..

I really don't know. I can only speculate that maybe it would give more time for MDC decode, and maybe trunking stuff...but that's just a guess. I set mine to 100ms, and everything seems to work just great. Also it helps me from keying up too quickly and walking on someone, instead of using the SmartPTT.

In my experience, the only practical use for Rx unmute delay is for when you are using MDC and don't like to hear the first portion of the MDC data packet (during pre PTT IDs and Sel Call/Call Alert, etc). It is simply a timer that keeps the radio muted for a preset amount of time once the radio detects a carrier.

Keep in mind that if you are using DOS and have the Rx unmute delay on, there will be a receive delay (that's what is suposed to do, right?). So, if you are listening to non-MDC radios, or radios that don't use pre PTT IDs, you might be better off turning the delay off to avoid missing the first part of a transmission.

I don't think it has any function in trunking modes.

I think that is true though, I think it doese let MDC to decode, but I will look into it.

I will test more into it though, sometimes it is a good thing, cause when we send out pages to each other, it sounds like preamble, so maybe that will acutally cut half of that sound or mute it, I wil try though, as for the paging sounding like preamble, I dont know why, still looking into that, just changing around things on the MDC personality.

acutally you know, it did not had a effect at all, I thought it did, :P lol,
it just delayed the the muting part, still dosent do that 180msec deley on the astro, very weirdddddd, I think am gonna probally just bring it to one of my friend and have him check on a service monitor and realign it if it needs to also, and see whats up with it. Kinda intresting though, on how that can be disabled and enable, would like to know that.
