I just hooked up my 3 inch Motorola 800 Mhz. shorty antennta to the network analizer and the SWR was around 4:1 does that sound right? It was terrible. The 1/4 wave 900 Mhz. antenna was great at 1.04:1 centered at 930.000 Mhz. Let me know what you guys think.

Could the readings be due to lack of a ground plane ? The 3" antenna
is the 1/4 wave and requires a ground plane to show a decent SWR (antenna hooked up to the radio provides somewhat of a ground plane).
Does the network analyzer provide any ground plane ? The larger antenna- possibly an elevated wave 1/4 wave dipole wouldn't be much affected without a ground plane.
