A question about Moto Warranty?

Post by Microwave Mike »

Will Motorola still warranty a radio even if the person is not the original
Purchaser?
The reason I ask is that I saw Tier One VHF mobile for sale. It was NIB and even had the extended two-year warranty in the option list page. The SN# was 585CFM1652.
That Would place the date of manufacture in Dec of 2005. In fact the date code I saw on the W-5 head was 445.

The answer will help to determine if I should buy the radio.

Thank you

What radios do you own?: XTS2500, XTS5000, and MTS2000

they SHOULD (so long as the radio isn't missing, etc). I had an HT1250 I got a while back that had a two year warranty, I bought it used. It developed the famous pixel out display and my local MSS (Diversified Electronics) fixed it under warranty repair, no questions asked.
The views here are my own and do not represent those of anyone else or the company, the boss, his wife, his dog or distant relatives.

if you are talking about the XTL that is on "the auction site"

my guess is that since someone's insurance carrier paid for that item (it's from a damaged freight salvage place)

that

NO

you will not be getting a warranty... since it was written off as damaged.

however

knowing how AFU M sometimes is with tracking stuff.... yeah, you can probably get warranty service

UNLESS

there is water damage (or obvious physical damage)

to the radio

No the radio is pristine. It was a refusal to accept delivery,Then it was dumped by the trucking company.

Now you have confused me.

If the serial number shows in warranty, they won't even think twice about covering warranty on the unit. According to the various user's guides I've leafed through, the warranty is transferable. Unless the serial number sets off bells & whistles for some reason at Motorola, you're ok.

Standard warranty is pretty much covered.Getting a unit covered by extended warranty can be tricky is the user does not have original bill of sale or proof of extended warranty.
I bought a HT750 off Ebay, the serial said it was under warranty up until 4 days before it arrived to me.I sent it to Elgin and they fixed it for free.New dust cover, casing and PTT button.
I also added extended warranty to a Ebay HT1550 2 weeks before its standard warranty expired,no questions asked.Which more than paid for itself due to LCD problems with it a few months later.
