I am writing to see if other people suffer from Astro induced stress. Every time I walk around with my Astro on my belt I am so scared it might fall off or get banged. I almost walk around paranoid. Do other people stress like this? I mean wearing an Astro is like having a car on you side. If anything happens you are easily out $500 or $2000. I would like to hear your stories.

I don't worry about damage. Although I make every reasonable attempt to keep the radio from making contact with tree shredders and brick walls at any angle of impact, I know that the radio is tough enough to withstand any impact that doesn't flat knock me off my feet, so all issues are really cosmetic, and the price of new housings isn't really all that bad...plus I've got a spare housing on hand anyway. I've learned to trust that 3" public safety belt clip. It holds to your clothes pretty well as long as you're not jogging or running.

Mostly I just try to make sure that the radio doesn't get misplaced. So far, no problems. I've never had a radio lost or stolen as of yet, knock on wood.

If you're really concerned about it, you can hook up a lanyard attachment under the antenna base and put a hook or clip on the other end of it as a safety line.

What radios do you own?: Progreso soup can with CRT

Alan: If most or all of your use of the radio consists of only listening, then put a short battery on the unit, like a 1000 mAh NiMH/2.5 inches high, and just carry it in your back pants pocket. It's a little bit heavy but not too bad. That's what I do with my Sabers.

I just put an ugly old housing I had sitting around on mine, if I drop or bang it against a wall, oh well!

I saw the US Border Patrol wearing weird holsters for the astro sabers they had,

They were open on the bottom, less a little lip that appeared to hold the radio in.
Looked like this
